Candid B Lotion for Effective Topical Antifungal and Anti-inflammatory Relief
Candid B Lotion is a clinically-formulated topical combination medication designed for the targeted treatment of fungal skin infections accompanied by inflammatory symptoms. It synergistically combines the potent antifungal action of Clotrimazole with the anti-inflammatory and antipruritic properties of Beclomethasone Dipropionate. This dual-action approach not only eradicates the causative pathogens but also provides rapid symptomatic relief from redness, swelling, and itching, promoting patient comfort and compliance. It is indicated for a range of dermatological conditions where both infection and inflammation are present.
Features
- Active Ingredients: Clotrimazole USP 1% w/w and Beclomethasone Dipropionate IP 0.025% w/w
- Pharmaceutical Form: Topical lotion; smooth, non-greasy, quick-absorbing formulation
- Mechanism of Action: Clotrimazole acts by disrupting the fungal cell membrane integrity; Beclomethasone is a potent corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation and immune responses
- Packaging: Available in airtight, UV-protective bottles of 15ml and 30ml with controlled dispensing caps
- Excipients: Purified water, propylene glycol, cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, and preservatives
Benefits
- Provides rapid and effective eradication of dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds responsible for superficial skin infections
- Significantly reduces associated inflammation, erythema, edema, and pruritus, enhancing patient comfort within days of initiation
- Prevents the spread of infection to adjacent skin areas and reduces the risk of secondary bacterial infections
- The lotion base ensures easy spreadability, even on hairy areas, and is formulated to be non-occlusive, reducing maceration risk
- Supports skin barrier repair by controlling the inflammatory cascade, leading to faster resolution of lesions and improved cosmetic outcomes
- Minimizes recurrence rates when used as directed for the full prescribed duration
Common use
Candid B Lotion is primarily prescribed for the treatment of fungal skin infections where inflammatory components are prominent. This includes conditions such as tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), and cutaneous candidiasis. It is also used for certain eczematous disorders complicated by secondary fungal infections. The lotion is suitable for application on intertriginous areas (skin folds) due to its non-greasy, drying nature.
Dosage and direction
Apply a thin layer of Candid B Lotion to the affected and immediately surrounding skin areas twice daily, or as directed by a physician. Gently massage until absorbed. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application, unless the hands are the treatment site. The duration of therapy typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. Clinical improvement is usually observed within the first week; however, the full course must be completed to prevent relapse. Do not cover the treated area with occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed by a healthcare provider.
Precautions
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nostrils, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Do not apply on broken or ulcerated skin unless advised by a doctor. Use with caution on the face, groin, or axillae due to higher absorption rates and increased risk of steroid-related adverse effects. Prolonged use can lead to skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, and systemic absorption of the corticosteroid. Monitoring for signs of skin irritation or hypersensitivity is advised. Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age without medical supervision.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole, Beclomethasone Dipropionate, or any other component of the formulation. Contraindicated in viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella), untreated bacterial infections, tuberculous or syphilitic skin lesions, and perioral dermatitis. Should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other imidazole antifungals or corticosteroids.
Possible side effect
Common side effects are typically localized and may include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or erythema at the application site. Less frequently, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, or allergic contact dermatitis may occur. With prolonged or excessive use, systemic absorption of the corticosteroid may lead to manifestations of hypercortisolism, such as skin thinning, adrenal suppression, glaucoma, or increased intraocular pressure. Discontinue use and consult a physician if severe irritation or signs of an allergic reaction develop.
Drug interaction
No specific drug interactions with systemic medications have been widely reported for topical application. However, caution is advised when using other topical corticosteroids, antifungals, or irritant agents concurrently on the same site, as this may increase the risk of local adverse effects or altered efficacy.
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as remembered. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for a missed one.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely but may occur with excessive and prolonged application over large body surface areas, leading to increased systemic absorption of the corticosteroid. Symptoms may include manifestations of Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, or adrenal insufficiency. Treatment involves discontinuation of the product and supportive/symptomatic management. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15β30Β°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
